RELEASE INFORMATION
A new acoustic ensemble consisting of three of Norway’s most unique musicians: Michael Francis Duch (double bass), Tomas Järmyr (percussion), and Kristoffer Lo (brass). Together they explore the boundaries between improvisation, drones and ambient, in an acoustic format focusing on timbre and silence.

With inspiration spanning from the monumental sound landscapes of Sunn O))) to the structural minimalism of Philip Glass and Morton Feldman, the trio creates music which is both meditative and intense. It pulses slowly, lets the sounds breathe, and invites the listener into a sensory space where time and structure dissolve.

This is not a project seeking fast solutions, but music for the those who dare to listen slowly.

Relased as LP on Zen Feedbacker, CD on Sanntidsmusikk and digitally on Bandcamp.

MICHAEL FRANCIS DUCH (b. 1978) was born and raised in Trondheim and plays double bass. He is a member of the editorial board of VIS – Nordic Journal for Artistic Research and an alumni member of the Young Academy of Norway.

Duch completed his three-year period as an art fellow at the Department of Music, NTNU, with his viva voce on October 30, 2010. In his project “Free Improvisation – Genre and Method” he researched free improvisation and improvisation-based experimental music.

He has contributed to over 80 releases in various formats, including several solo albums, and has played solo concerts in Norway, Sweden, Reykjavik, Athens, Madrid, Vienna, Glasgow, Huddersfield and London. Duch has worked closely with composers such as Lene Grenager and Michael Pisaro-Liu and has premiered several solo pieces written especially for him. He has also released several albums of newly written music.

His main interest lies in experimental contemporary music, especially the Anglo-American tradition from the 1950s and 60s, with composers such as Cornelius Cardew, John Cage, Christian Wolff and Pauline Oliveros.

Duch plays regularly with SiTron (Trondheim Sinfonietta) and the Alpaca Ensemble. He is also active in a number of other constellations, including a trio with John Tilbury and Rhodri Davies, the improv quartet LEMUR (with Bjørnar Habbestad, Hild Sofie Tafjord and Lene Grenager), the free jazz trio EN EN EN (with Tor Haugerud and Eirik Hegdal) and the Scottish experimental disco band AMOR.

He has collaborated with a number of renowned musicians, including Pauline Oliveros, Mats Gustafsson, AMM, George Lewis, Christian Wolff, Tony Conrad and Joëlle Léandre.

TOMAS JÄRMYR (b. 1987 in Sweden) was born into a musical family with both parents being teachers at the local music school. This is where he discovered the drums at age 2. He started taking lessons at the age of 7, got his first Pearl (World Series) drum kit the following year, and joined the music school orchestra around the same time. As a young teenager, Tomas was already playing in several local bands and ensembles, spanning from punk and metal to jazz and folk music. It was during these years he really started developing his personal style of drumming characterized by great force, finesse, intensity and a sheer endless control over textures.

After more specialized studies in jazz and improvisation during high school and college, Tomas moved to Trondheim, Norway in 2008 where he obtained both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from “Jazzlinja” (Jazz department) at NTNU university. During his student years he manifested his musical expression and expanded his network of likeminded collaborators both nationally and internationally. While pushing his own bands and projects, he also started working more and more as a sideman and session drummer, all of which led to extensive touring mainly in Norway, Scandinavia and Europe.

In 2015 he temporarily joined the Italian jazz/metal monster Zu, picking up the sticks after Gabe Serbian (The Locust), until the return of original drummer Jacopo Battaglia in 2018. In January 2017, Tomas joined Motorpsycho, an internationally acclaimed, award winning band that has been, and still is, a driving force in Norwegian and European alternative rock music since 1989. Tomas left the band in 2023 ot pursue other musical projects.
